May / June - Mission with the Redemptorists
30th May to 4th June Mission with the Redemptorists
Through the course of a beautiful sunny week in May / June, Fr. Daniel Barragry CSSR.,Fr. Derek Mescall, CSSR., together with Maureen Kelly conducted a very Spiritual and prayerful Mini Mission for the people of Ballinroad and those who came from parishes around.
We had morning and evening sessions with some very special ceremonies. Maureen Kelly gave a wonderful homily on the opening night on the Faith of the people of Ireland, even during their most difficult times.
It was no different for the people of the Ballinroad area, two hundred years ago, as outlined by Maureen in greater detail in chapter one.
The penitential service was very special, helped by the inspirational music and singing by the choir who were in attendance and in great voice, all through the mission. The children of Garranbane N.S. joined in one of the morning masses and it was a moving experience, especially the communion reflection hymn, 'Hello my God', sung by Sinead Carey and Fr. Martin Keogh.
Maureen Kelly complimented the Teacher and the pupils who took part. She said it was the best school choir she could remember at a mission.
The All night vigil was very well attended, with prayers and reflections led by Fr. Doherty and some members of the congregation. Kathleen Murray supplied very much appreciated refreshments whenever needed.
We had the Mobile Shop across the road from the Church gate for all the Holy items associated with missions of old.
